Pediatrics
Our Podiatrists enjoy seeing children and the wide range of foot problems they can have. Children present with unique problems as their feet are different to those of adults. So often it may only be reassurance and education to concerned parents that may be necessary. Warts, flat feet, toe-walking and heel pain are just a few of the problems that we often see and treat.
Orthotic therapy
Orthoses are shoe inserts used to treat people of all ages with a wide range of foot problems. They are designed to improve foot biomechanics and support tissues under stress which will enhance foot function. We offer custom made orthotics and a range of pre-fabricated orthotics which our Podiatrist will prescribe following examination and assessment.
Diabetes
People with diabetes are certainly encouraged to have their feet assessed to determine their level of risk of diabetic associated foot complications. By checking the circulation and nerve function as well as foot structure and gait analysis we can help prevent future problems with early intervention. Annual check- ups for those with diabetes is what we recommend.
Nail Surgery
Ingrowing toenails can be an extremely painful condition. In some cases they will continually become infected and compromise the person’s ability to perform everyday activities. A wedge resection is a surgical procedure that can be performed here in our clinic to treat this condition. A local anaesthetic is required and the surgery itself does not require stitches as a chemical is used to prevent the unwanted portion of nail from growing back. Patients can walk out of the clinic following the surgery with instructions on dressing the toe to keep it clean and prevent infection.
General Foot Care
Some people and particularly those of our older community may find it difficult to manage the care of cutting their own toenails. We enjoy providing primary care treatment which includes the management of nails, corns and calluses and any other skin problems people may be experiencing.
Nail Fungus and Warts
Thickened and discoloured nails are often the sign of a fungal infection. It is quite common and can affect people of all ages. We can assess and explore treatment options for this condition. Warts or ‘verucca’ like mycotic nails are also a very common condition we see in our clinic. Again, we can provide effective treatment and management which is often a great relief as warts can be extremely painful.
